IES Simulation Seminar Series: Enhancing Fire and Blast Safety in Engineering Design

On 21 August 2025, the Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES) hosted an insightful seminar as part of the IES Simulation Seminar Series, focused on the critical topic of fire and blast safety in engineering design. The event brought together industry experts, researchers, and engineering professionals to explore how cutting-edge simulation technologies are shaping safer and more resilient built environments.
What We Covered
Participants enjoyed a series of presentations and discussions that touched on key areas, including:
- Understanding Fire Dynamics – examining how fire behaves and what it means for structural design.
- Blast Load Analysis – exploring methods to assess the impact of blast loads on buildings and infrastructure.
- Simulation Tools in Safety Engineering – discovering the latest digital tools that allow engineers to model fire and blast scenarios.
- Case Studies – learning from real-world projects where simulations have enhanced safety outcomes.
The seminar wasn’t just about theory – speakers showcased how these approaches are being applied in practice to predict risks, improve designs, and ultimately protect lives and property.

Why It Matters
Simulation-driven safety design is transforming the way engineers work. By being able to anticipate how structures respond to fire and blast, professionals can optimize materials, meet evolving safety codes, and build greater resilience into projects.
A Collaborative Experience
The evening concluded with an engaging Q&A session, where participants exchanged ideas and perspectives on the challenges and opportunities ahead. To recognize their contributions, IES presented appreciation certificates to our distinguished presenters, thanking them for sharing their expertise and insights with the community.

Thank You
IES extends its appreciation to all speakers, attendees, and partners who contributed to the success of this seminar. Events like these continue to highlight the importance of innovation, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing in making our world safer.
Stay tuned for upcoming sessions in the IES Simulation Seminar Series, where we’ll continue exploring how simulation can shape the future of engineering.
