Ansys Charge Plus
Ansys Charge Plus - Material Charging and Discharge Simulation Software
Ansys Charge Plus, formerly Ansys EMA3D Charge, simulates how materials charge and discharge: internal and surface charging, particle transport and arcing across interfaces. It assesses the risk of dielectric breakdown, electrostatic discharge and interference in electronics, spacecraft and power equipment.
Four physics solvers run in a streamlined workflow built into the Ansys Discovery CAD interface.
Ansys Charge Plus 2026 R1
- Contour-based arc visualisation: a clearer view of discharge paths in ESD and arcing studies.
- Stable plasma and discharge solving: Whitney edge FEM and the ChECSim algorithm for stable plasma and discharge analysis.
- ESD damage prediction: thermal-ablation coupling to predict damage caused by electrostatic discharge.

Surface and Internal Charging
Surface charging is simulated in space plasmas, precipitation static and triboelectric environments, and internal charging of conductors and insulators recovers the fields and currents induced by high-energy particles, to locate regions at risk of discharge or degradation.
Electrostatic Discharge and Arcing
A full-wave FDTD solver coupled with a nonlinear air chemistry module simulates arcing in complex geometry, from flashover on PCB nets to circuit breakers and ESD test standards, and arcing in solid dielectrics is modelled with a coupled finite element approach.
3D Particle Transport and Radiation Effects
Primary and secondary high-energy particle interactions are tracked through 3D materials and coupled with the field solution, supporting radiation hardening and shielding studies.
Common Charging and ESD Consultation Topics
- ESD robustness: discharge paths and arc currents in electronics.
- Spacecraft charging: surface and internal charging in orbit.
- Dielectric breakdown: arcing risk in insulation.
- Radiation shielding: charge deposition behind shielding.
