Ansys SpaceClaim - 3D Modeling Software, Succeeded by Ansys Discovery

Ansys SpaceClaim is direct 3D modelling software for engineers who need to create, edit and repair geometry without learning a traditional CAD system. It has been in maintenance mode since 2023 R2 and will not be available to install from 2027; its modelling capabilities continue in Ansys Discovery.

SpaceClaim is included in the Discovery modelling licence, and existing SpaceClaim scripts generally run in Discovery unchanged.

Ansys SpaceClaim 2026 R1

Installation: SpaceClaim is no longer in the unified installer, but can still be installed from the Download Center, with a command-line option, or alongside Material Designer or Speos.
Scripting API: API V232 is deprecated in 2026 R1 and will be removed in 2027 R1, so custom add-ins and scripts should be upgraded.
File format: legacy .scdoc files open through a translator, and files now save as .scdocx only.

De-featuring CAD, extracting fluid domains and simplifying models for simulation.
Preparing models for manufacturing, including sheet metal.

All of these are available in Ansys Discovery.

Moving from SpaceClaim to Discovery

Since 2025 R1, all new Ansys geometry development has been in Discovery, and the geometry kernel has moved to Parasolid. We help teams plan the move, covering licences, scripts and training.

Can we still use SpaceClaim?

Yes, until installation ends in 2027, but no new features are being added. Planning the move to Discovery now avoids a rushed change later.
