Ansys Expired TECS & Trade-Ins
Services & Renewals | Ansys licence reinstatement
A lapsed licence still solves. It just stops moving. You are locked to the version you had the day cover ended, with no one to call when a job is due Friday, and a client model that will not open because it was saved in something newer.
What you lose when Ansys TECS expires
| Entitlement | Active TECS | Expired TECS |
|---|---|---|
| New releases and service packs | Included | Not available |
| Solver corrections and bug fixes | Included | Not available |
| Technical support by phone, email and web | Included | Not available |
| Ansys Customer Portal and Learning Hub | Included | Restricted |
| Replacement licence keys | Included | May attract a fee |
| Running your existing or old models on your current version | Yes | Yes |
The row that catches people out is replacement licence keys. A paid-up licence is tied to your licence server. Refresh the hardware, migrate to a new machine or lose the server, and a routine IT change turns into an unplanned cost.
Benefits of Technical Enhancement and Customer Support (TECS)
TECS is more than just a ticket desk and on prem support.
It is access to engineers who run the same software on their own projects every day, across every physics discipline — so the answer comes from someone who has already hit your problem. Non-linear material behaviour that will not converge. Coupling a thermal model to a structural one. A model that takes eleven hours and should take three. In practice it is an extra analyst on the team for the cost of the cover.
How far behind are you?
Ansys ships two releases a year, each carrying solver speed, new physics and fixes. The gap compounds quietly:
| Time off TECS | Releases missed |
|---|---|
| 1 year | 2 |
| 2 years | 4 |
| 3 years | 6 |
| 5 years | 10 |
Every release also widens the file-compatibility gap with clients, partners and anyone you hire who trained on the current version.
Ansys licence consolidation and Trade-Ins
Licences that have fallen out of cover are rarely tidy. They have usually accumulated over years — products bought for one project, seats belonging to people who have moved on, older tools that a current bundle now covers outright. Coming back on TECS is the natural moment to fix that, because you are reopening the agreement anyway.
| What we usually find | What can be done about it |
|---|---|
| Licences bought over several years, all renewing on different dates | Consolidate onto one agreement with a single renewal date |
| Seats nobody uses any more | Trade in legacy value toward products the team actually needs |
| Legacy products superseded by current bundles | Trade in against the current equivalent |
| Individual solvers bought separately over time | Move up to a bundle that covers all of them, often for less |
| HPC bought piecemeal across machines | Consolidate into HPC Packs sized to how you actually solve |
Handled together, reinstatement and consolidation often land close to what you were paying before — on a current, tidier set of licences with one renewal date instead of several.
It costs less than starting again
Most people assume a lapsed licence means buying the software a second time.
It does not — you already own it. Check our Ansys' TECS restart promotions from time to time for licences that have fallen out of cover, and the terms are worth knowing before you write anything off.
Send CADIT your Ansys customer number and the products on the licence. We will come back with a figure, tell you whether a promotion is currently open, and flag anything worth consolidating or trading in while we are at it.
