Ansys Lumerical
Ansys Lumerical - Enterprise Photonics Simulation Software
Ansys Lumerical is a complete environment for designing and validating nanophotonic devices, photonic integrated circuits (PICs) and advanced optical components. A consistent workflow runs from device-level physics through circuit and system behaviour, so waveguides, couplers, lasers and quantum photonic structures can be explored in simulation before committing to fabrication.
Foundry-calibrated compact models and PDK-based workflows connect photonic design to electronic-photonic design automation (EPDA) tools.
Ansys Lumerical 2026 R1
- Synopsys OptoCompiler integration: OptoCompiler now links directly with Lumerical FDTD, MODE and Multiphysics for device-to-circuit photonic design.
- Sentaurus TCAD to Lumerical FDTD: a fabrication-aware workflow for CMOS image sensor design.
- GPU-accelerated FDTD: direct meshing to GPU, plus broadband and volumetric current sources on GPU.

Ansys Lumerical Enterprise
The full Lumerical suite: FDTD, MODE, INTERCONNECT, CML Compiler and the multiphysics solvers. Each job includes 4 CPU cores and 4 GPU SMs, and scales with Ansys HPC Packs.
Better suited to multi-GPU systems and HPC workflows.
Ansys Lumerical FDTD, MODE and INTERCONNECT
Individual products are also licensed on their own as Standard licences, each with its own compute allowance; a Standard FDTD licence includes 32 CPU cores and 16 GPU SMs per job.
Device-Level Solvers: FDTD, MODE and Multiphysics
FDTD simulates nanophotonic devices in the time domain, MODE characterises waveguides and couplers, and the multiphysics solvers (CHARGE, HEAT, FEEM and others) add electrical and thermal effects such as carrier transport and heating.
Circuit-Level Design with INTERCONNECT and CML Compiler
INTERCONNECT simulates classical and quantum PICs, and CML Compiler builds calibrated compact model libraries from measurement and simulation data, so foundry PDKs carry accurate models into circuit design.
Inverse Design and Fabrication Variation
Photonic inverse design optimises topology and shape automatically, and Monte Carlo analysis assesses the effect of fabrication variation before tape-out.
Common Photonics Consultation Topics
- PIC components: waveguides, couplers, splitters, resonators and filters.
- Photonic PDK models: compact models calibrated to a foundry process.
- Lasers and modulators: active device performance.
- Quantum photonics: single-photon and quantum circuit structures.
