Ansys Mechanical
Ansys Mechanical - Enterprise Structural FEA Analysis Software
Ansys Mechanical is finite element (FEA) software for structural engineering. It determines whether a part will bend, crack, overheat or loosen under vibration before any metal is cut, with structural, thermal, acoustic, transient and nonlinear analysis in one environment and a direct link to your CAD.
Engineering teams apply it to everything from a bracket that must pass a load case to a building frame that must withstand an earthquake. Journaling and scripting let recurring checks be set up once and reused across projects.
Ansys Mechanical 2026 R1
- Sherlock built in: electronics reliability analysis inside Mechanical, with quick PCB stackup changes.
- Mesh morphing: send meshed bodies to Direct Morph and cut roundtrips between geometry prep and Mechanical.
- GPU resource prediction: Resource Prediction now recommends when GPU acceleration pays off, and runs in MAPDL.

Ansys Mechanical Enterprise
Adds advanced nonlinear analysis, nonlinear transient dynamics, fracture, acoustics, fully coupled-field and hydrodynamics to everything in Premium.
Provides in-depth analysis of structural and coupled-field behaviour in one productive environment.
Ansys Mechanical Premium
Adds nonlinear structural analysis and linear dynamics to everything in Pro, for parts subject to large deformation, plasticity or contact.
Gives greater engineering insight through advanced nonlinear stress and comprehensive linear dynamics.
Ansys Mechanical Pro
Structural, full thermal and vibration analysis, covering most everyday FEA work.
Robust general-purpose stress, thermal, vibration and fatigue simulation for fast, dependable answers.
Structural, Thermal and Nonlinear FEA Capabilities
- Strength and stiffness: stress, deflection and safety factors for brackets, frames, housings and pressure parts.
- Dynamics and vibration: modal, harmonic and random vibration, with pre-stress, plus fatigue life under repeated loading.
- Nonlinear behaviour: plasticity, hyperelastic materials such as rubber, large deflection, and contact from bonded joints to frictional sliding.
- Thermal: conduction, convection and radiation, with temperatures imported from CFD or electromagnetic results.
- Composites and optimisation: layup design and failure prediction, and parametric, mesh-morphing and topology optimisation for lightweight and additive designs.
Seismic and Lateral Load Analysis for Buildings
For civil and structural teams, Mechanical's solvers address seismic response, vibration and lateral loads, establishing how a structure will behave before it is built rather than after an inspection.
Common FEA Consultation Topics
- Structural strength checks: stress and safety factors for brackets, frames, lifting equipment and machine parts.
- Pressure vessels and piping: stress under pressure and thermal loading.
- Vibration and resonance: natural frequencies and response of equipment, mounts and structures.
- Thermal stress: expansion and stress from temperature changes in assemblies.
- Steel structures: frames, platforms and supports under wind and seismic loading.
- Fatigue life: durability of parts under repeated loading.

Ansys Mechanical FAQ
Is Ansys Mechanical the same as Ansys Workbench?
No. Mechanical is the structural application; Workbench is the project environment it runs in, linking geometry, meshing and other solvers. Mechanical solves with the Mechanical APDL (MAPDL) solver.
Do I need Premium for contact or plasticity?
In most cases, yes. Pro covers linear structural, thermal and vibration analysis; nonlinear behaviour such as plasticity and large deflection requires Premium.
