Ansys CFX
Ansys CFX - Enterprise Turbomachinery CFD Software
Ansys CFX is computational fluid dynamics software built for turbomachinery: pumps, fans, compressors, and gas and steam turbines. Known for its robustness, it is used where rotating machinery must be designed for efficiency, safety and durability.
The solver and models sit in a flexible interface that can be customised and automated through session files, scripting and the CFX Expression Language, and high-performance computing scales the solver for large transient runs.
Ansys CFX 2026 R1
- Generalised modal force: monitors the integrated force on blades and transfers aerodynamic forcing to Mechanical for forced-response analysis.
- GMRES solver option: improves convergence in difficult harmonic analysis cases.
- PyCFX: a new Python interface for automating and customising Ansys CFX.

Rotor-Stator Interaction and Transient Blade Row Methods
Steady and transient rotor-stator interfaces capture the interaction between blade rows. Transient blade row methods resolve unsteady effects such as flutter and forced response at a fraction of the cost of a full-wheel model.
Steam, Real-Gas and Turbulence Modelling
Steam and real-gas property models handle wet steam and high-pressure gases, including condensation in moist-air and wet-steam flows, and validated turbulence models resolve the boundary layers that govern blade performance.
Turbo Set-Up, Performance Maps and Blade Design Integration
Dedicated turbo workflows streamline set-up and post-processing, and performance map automation runs the operating points needed for a full characteristic. Blade geometry comes from Ansys BladeModeler and meshes from Ansys TurboGrid.
Common Turbomachinery CFD Consultation Topics
- Pump performance: head, efficiency and cavitation risk across the operating range.
- Fans and blowers: pressure rise, efficiency and flow uniformity.
- Compressor and turbine stages: stage performance and blade row interaction.
- Performance curves: characteristic maps generated from simulation.
